Despite most world cultures love of alcohol and alcoholic drinks and the evidence that a moderate amount of alcohol is probably good for our health, alcohol causes a lot of serious problems, both socially, and medically. However for any person who does not want to drink but still wishes to be out and about where people are it can be difficult to find a “grown-up” non-alcoholic drink – a drink that adults can enjoy.

I have often thought it would be useful for bars to have a short menu of non-alcoholic drinks on their bars and tables. It would surely make it more likely that one would order a non-alcoholic drink – perhaps in-between  a couple of alcoholic drinks. I would also like to see more variety in the non-alcoholic drinks available – this must surely be a huge opportunity for someone to come up with an adult-tasting non-alcoholic drink – maybe this is an idea for a competition?

It seems as if some bars  are making interesting non-alcoholic drinks their forte. It would be easy to make drinks from fresh ingredients e.g. I would love to sometimes drink a fresh lemonade made with real local lemons which I watch being made rather than what passes as lemonade in a bottle. I am sure there must be some traditional local recipes for non-alcoholic drinks too that would be pleasant to drink and of interest to tourists.

If you have any drinks recipes or links to sites you have found useful or comments please let me know by adding them below. Thanks.
